To obtain for all religious groups, fair just and affordable access to the country's TV and radio waves so that they will be in a position to give full expression to the religious needs of their communities, help to inform the general public about religious matters, and critically evaluate social, political and economic structures and their activities from a spiritual and moral perspective.

The IFRB wishes to promote and develop quality religious communication in Southern Africa through the electronic media in its broadest sense, by facilitating interaction between religious communities and broadcasters.

It is crucial for the South African public to understand the role of the IFRB as the Forum works with the government, the ICASA, and broadcasters in the unfolding arrangements for broadcasting, as mandated by the religious community.

The IFRB exists to promote three aspects of religious broadcasting:

  • programmes of worship, teaching or pastoral care for the adherents of the various religions in SA
  • educational programming to assist the South African public to understand the religious communities present in the country
  • the presentation of the view point of religious communities on moral and ethical matters or issues of current concern which may be presented or debated in the media.

The IFRB will lobby for the maintenance of religious broadcasting and work for high standards within it.

Facilitating training is an essential component of the IFRB's activities.
