The IFRB's aims are to promote:

• programmes of worship, teaching or pastoral care for the adherents of the various religions present in South Africa;
• educational programming to assist the South African public to understand the religious communities present in the country;
• the presentation of the view point of religious communities on moral and ethical matters or issues of current concern which may be presented or debated in the media;
• an awareness of the need for religious broadcasting;
• 'watchdog' responsibility on behalf of the religious communities in matters of religious broadcasting;
• the lobbying of government and broadcasting authorities for the maintenance of religious broadcasting and work for high standards within it;
• the facilitating of training for religious broadcasters.
